Trick or Treat!
We have been prepping for halloween for about a month here at the Gray house. We borrowed a bunch of books from the library, watched a few halloween episodes of our favorite shows (which are: Little Bear, Yo Gabba Gabba & Olivia). So when the time came for trick or treating- despite the snow- (whaaaaat?) it only took one house to get the hang of it all. Our first year as trick or treaters was a huge success. My puppy and kitten we very proud and had a blast dressing up and being their usual ham-bone selves.

26 months
Dear almost-twenty-six month old Evelyn and Audrey,
I am currently listening to you talk to each other while you should be napping. You are discussing noonies and juice. Wait, now I'm pretty sure Evelyn is standing at the top of the stairs yelling at me- this is because she can crawl out of her crib like a little monkey. Graceful as a gymnast, my darling Evie. Audrey, the first time you tried to crawl out of your crib, you landed on your face and have since restrained from doing so, so I thank you for learning your lesson (relatively) safely.
More to come later my loves.. as soon as I conjure up the energy after the morning we've had (including having to leave the library because certain people wouldn't follow the rules).

Why sugar coat it? We (upon reccomendation of the pediatrician) duct tape diapers. We also snack in the living room, with the dog, with the TV on. Yup, its happened- resorting to almost anything safe in order to keep you happy, fed, and clean. Spoiled? maybe. Happy Mamma? Yes.

The 20-somethings months
Hello Strangers!
Lets discuss some recent developments, events, discoveries and the like.
Most recently, the girls are starting to put words together to make phrases and semi-sentences. "Audie-Turn" was the first of our advanced communicating skills. I must say at least 50 times a day- "its Audrey's turn" or, "its Evies turn"in an attempt to avoid all-out-brawls and promote sharing. So we have "Audie Tuhn (no real R pronunciation there) and "Ebie tuhn" (more of a B then a V, still no r).
"Eat pancake" was the new phrase of the day yesterday. "Whoa away Narnie" which translates to "go away leonard" with a firm point of the finger while eating lunch, was also new yesterday. My little parrots, they repeat almost every word said and are finally remembering more of them at random times. OH! And we finally figured out who "Bobby" is. Evelyn, particularly, has used "BOBBBBYYYY" and pointed for months. So simple, 'bobby' means 'want'. How I didn't figure this out sooner, is beyond me.
If you would have asked me last week who was in charge between the two of them, I would have said- Evie, hands down. The tides have shifted this week to Miss Audrey who is using her hands quite forcefully to get her point across. I asked for a kiss one day and got an open handed slap across the face; so loud, that Eric heard it from a few feet away. You see where we are heading here? I wish it was called the "Terrific Twos" but lets face it, it sometimes is just not that terrific.. terrible would be far more accurate.
Refusing to be buckled into their high chairs, their stroller, or their car seats makes for some extremely frustrating situations. Control. Its all about control. Shouldn't I be the one in control? I now feel so much more sympathetic to those parents with children kicking and screaming in the middle of the store. That was us, earlier this week at a craft street fair. People walking by, giving me the 'I know your pain look' and giggles while my child lay on the street in a full on fit of rage.
So besides all these trying and difficult times, this is maybe my favorite stage? I feel like I say that every time but with each hurdle comes so much more fun. I love you my darlings... off to pick out birthday party invitations for my almost 2 year olds. How on earth has it been 2 years?

Buckle Down
So where have we been, you ask? Where were you, exactly, when you had 20 month old twins? Not on the computer, blogging, that's for sure.
I understand, I need to buckle down and get back on the blogging train and I will, I promise. The issue is that by the end of the day, I am utterly exhausted and only capable of finding some nonsense on television and zoning out.
Speaking of buckling down... E & A are obsessed, OBSESSED over anything with buckles. Their main buckle mechanism of choice? Their highchairs. They can buckle them closed, but cannot unbuckle.. so immediately upon buckling, the scream "PEASE" in demand for help with the unbuckling procedure.
The girls are also very talkative lately. If you have had the pleasure of hearing Evelyn talk, you know what I am speaking of, its pretty awesome. Audrey is more of a 'reader' where she will 'read' her books aloud but Evelyn has full on conversations with you in her own language (with a few 'mommy' 'daddy' 'narnie' au- ee's) thrown in. Au-ee and Au-dee is, naturally, Audrey- and sometimes E-bie for Evie.. too much.
In other news- we have been enjoying our weekly swim classes and playgroup at the Y. E & A both now know how to blow bubbles and kick and use 'big arms'. These skills are not limited to the pool, they will also show these skills off in the tub or anywhere for that matter. "kick, kick, kick, kick" !
Now that the weather has been improving, we've explored some local playgrounds and parks, which has been a fun way to expend some energy. Our neighbors gave us a playhouse and slide for the backyard and against all my intentions of keeping the backyard plastic free, we are rocking some serious colorful plastic these days. We also have been taking our red wagon out and about for walks, which the girls also really enjoy.
Our favorite books lately are all Dr. Seuss. The girls especially love when Eric reads these stories to them. They both can say "Hop on Pop" and 'Go Dog, Go'. Books and putting diapers on their baby dolls account for a lot of playtime around here. Puzzles are also a big fan favorite and lets not forget the shape sorters...
Singing, as I've mentioned numerous times, is also a favorite activity. Sometimes I'll hear Audrey when she wakes up from her nap singing "allllll ooohwaaa towwwwwn" (all over town from wheels on the bus). They are almost completely proficient with their A B C's and like to sing "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and "Itsy Bitsy Spider" along with "Wheels". We listen to A LOT of music (pretty much all day long) and its so amazing that they know most of the songs on the children's station. They may not know the exact words, but they 'sing' along to most of them on their own.
We are working on our counting and we can get to 2. Isn't that appropriate?
Oh and I'd be a complete fat liar if I didn't admit that their favorite television show (they watch 2) is Yo Gabba Gabba. Sesame Street is their second favorite. They know Elmo and all of the YGG characters. It was simply impossible to escape a few tv shows in the past few months.. being cooped up in the house, what else can you do?
Crayons have made their way into our world.. ONLY to be used at their highchairs. Yes, most of the time I spend after 'coloring' is with a wet paper towel trying to extract the crayon bits from their mouths.
The little lovies have become quite 'independent' in the last couple of months, insisting on doing things on their own... this can lead to quite the breakdown and temper tantrum. It is so surprising to Eric and I that these two have tempers.. who would have ever thought?
I think that's enough for now.. here are some photos with lots more to come later tonight.
Has anyone seen Leonard?
Audrey practicing her reading
Evie is reading Hop on Pop
Snacking on some cheerios and watching Sesame Street.
Tu-Tu "Ring around the rosie" (or more appropriately, lets drag each other across the room)
Oh, the diapers...
Miss Twin A herself being cute as ever
Could she be more of a ham?
